Carbon methodology

Carbon is a first-class placement signal, measured consistently so the number on a receipt means the same thing as the number on the live map.

Live grid carbon intensity (gCO2eq/kWh) per European bidding zone comes from a EU grid-data source, refreshed on a few-minute cadence and cached in the control plane. Placement scoring reads the current value for each candidate region.

A job’s energy is measured during the run (accelerator power plus a host model). Multiplying energy in kWh by the grid intensity for the region and time window yields the emitted CO2 recorded on the receipt.

Carbon intensity is shown with color, an icon, and the numeric value together — never color alone — so the scale is legible to colorblind readers and in monochrome exports.
